Sonam Kapoor is an Indian actress who performs in Bollywood films.She  is the daughter of Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor and niece of filmmaker Boney Kapoor and actress Sreedevi. She is an Indian film actress, who made her debut with the bollywood film Saawariya. She got her first commercial success with the romantic comedy 'I Hate Luv Storys' in 2010 followed by Aisha, Mausam and Raanjhanaa. She is acknowledged as a fashionista and praised for her unique sense of style. She is latest seen in film Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo. She will soon be seen in upcoming flicks like Battle For Bittora and Neerja Bhanot.A girl with varied interests like reading, shopping, playing squash, video games and painting, Sonam was never interested in acting. Direction and writing were where her interest in films lay.
Sonam  comes from an established filmy family.She has a younger sister Rhea Kapoor and younger brother Harshvardhan kapoor. Sonam was born on 9 June 1985 in Chembur, Mumbai. She can speak English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Marathi languages and also a well trained classical dancer. She used to play basketball with her childhood friend and Rockstar of Bollywood Ranbir Kapoor at a local sports club. Before her debut movie Saawariya, Kapoor took acting classes from the theater personalities Roshan Taneja, Jayati Bhatia and Feroz Abbas Khan.
Shestarted life with a structured education and firm grounding in the process of film making. After completing her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir and receiving International Baccalaureate from the United World College of South East Asia, she started her career in the film industry by assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the making of Black (2005).
She had made her debut with Saawariya (2007) alongside debutant male actor, Ranbir Kapoor. The film did not do well at the box-office; however Sonam Kapoor as an actress was recognized. Delhi – 6 (2009), her second film also failed at the box-office. She then appeared in I Hate Luv Storys (2010), which went on to become her first box-office hit. Aisha (2010), in which she starred with Abhay Deol, was again a box-office failure.In 2011 she was seen in Thank You and Mausam. Both the films failed to do much at the box-office. She was seen in Abbas-Mustan’s thriller Players in 2012 but this film also turned out to be a box-office flop.
She will be next seen in Bhaag Mika Bhaag opposite Farhan Akhtar.Sonam is Bollywood royalty with immense support in the Indian film fraternity.
Unlike most star children, Sonam started life with a structured education, and a grounding in the process of filmmaking. She graduated from college in Political Science and Economics. She is interested in writing and direction, and has assisted the celebrated director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the production of his films including the path-breaking 'Black'.
The veteran director then asked her to star in his next project, the critically acclaimed "Saawariya". She made a confident debut and elicited notable reviews for it. She was nominated for a number of film awards as a debutante and an actress. She won the "Stardust Superstar of Tomorrow" award.Her second movie, "Delhi 6" got her glowing reviews and established her as an actress of calibre. 2010 has been the turning point for Sonam, with two back-to-back hits - "I Hate Luv Storys" and "Aisha". These hits propelled her into the league of superstars.
Sonam was named the "Best Dressed Celebrity" of 2009 by People's Magazine. Sonam is associated with prestigious brands like L'Oreal Paris, Electrolux, Spice Mobile, Mont Blanc and Anant Diamond Jewellery (a sub brand of Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council).Sonam Kapoor has made her acting debut with 'Saawariya' in 2007 opposite Ranbir Kapoor, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Subsequently featured in an offbeat drama film Delhi-6. She has received critical success for her performances in films like Delhi 6 and Mausam. She has got various accolades for her unique styling sense more than films. She was appreciated a lot for her role in the biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag opposite Farhan Akhtar. Sonam Kapoor was singed as the brand ambassador for L'Oreal Paris in 2010 and has transformed into red carpet goddess at Cannes. She has featured along side Hrithik Roshan for Yo Yo Honey Singh's recreated music video of Dheere Dheere song, from Aashiqui movie.
Sonam Kapoor, the freshest face of Indian film industry, is the daughter of film star Anil Kapoor and ex-model Sunita Kapoor. Sonam is their eldest daughter and has one sister Rhea and brother Harshwardhan. Nicknamed ‘Giraffe’ by her father, Sonam did used to play the game of basketball with her childhood friend Ranbir Kapoor in a local club.Sonam went to school in Mumbai at the Arya Vidya Mandir School in Juhu and then enrolled in the United World College of South East Asia to do her International Baccalaureate.After studying theatre from Singapore for 2 years, Sonam joined Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an assistant for the making of the film ‘Black’ and gained insight into the art of filmmaking. Bhansali saw the spark of a talented actress in Sonam and offered her the lead in his next movie ‘Saawariya’. The movie failed to do well at the Box Office but Sonam got rave review for her performance by the critics. The next movie Sonam did was ‘Delhi 6’ which again bombed at the Box Office but Sonam’s acting skills were appreciated She starred in ‘I Hate Luv Stories’ opposite Imran Khan. Sonam developed a knack of reading in early childhood and played lead in a film called ‘Aisha’, based a novel by ‘Emma’ by Justin Austin and produced by father.
