Karan Joharn is an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter. He was  born, 25th May 1972 and brought up in Mumbai by his father Yash Johar, founder of the famous Dharma Productions and mother, Hiroo Johar. He schooled at Greenlawns School and Mastered in French from H.R. College of Commerce and Economics. He has been nominated and won quite a few awards including the Filmfare Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1999), Best Dialogue for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… (2002), Best Director for My Name Is Khan (2011). Johar also won the IIFA Award for Best Costume Designer for Mohabbatein (2001), Best Dialogue for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…, Best Story for Kal Ho Naa Ho.costume designer, actor and television personality who is primarily known for his work in Hindi films.
A close friend of Shahrukh Khan, he assisted Yash Chopra's Yash Raj Films during the early days of of his career, making his directorial debut with the mega-hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). He also had a popular chat show named Koffee with Karan (2004) The success of "KKHH" made him one of the most high-profile directors in the Hindi-language Mumbai Film industry, popularly known as Bollywood.

Also a close friend of Aditya Chopra, he has been a creative member of Yash Raj productions such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Veer-Zaara (2004), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), and Mohabbatein (2000).

His success has guaranteed him worldwide distribution of his production company, Dharma Productions, for many years to come. In 2007, Karan Johar was chosen as one of the 250 Global Young Leaders by Geneva-based World Economic Forum (2006). Karan also became the first Indian Fimmaker to be a jury member in the Miss World Competition in Warsaw, Polland on 30th September 2007.
Karan has been playground commercial Indian cinema from childhood. He has always been influenced by the works of veterans like Raj Kapoor, Yash Chopra and his contemporaries like Sooraj Barjatya. He made his formal entry into mainstream Hindi cinema as an actor (Shah Rukh Khan’s friend) in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). In addition to this he also assisted Aditya Chopra in directing the film and not to mention selected costumes for Shah Rukh Khan, a practice that he continued for other movies as well. His directorial debut was with the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which bagged 8 Filmfare Awards including Best Movie, Best Director and all four Best Actor Awards for leading and supporting roles. Karan Johar then directed Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… (2001),a family drama which was again a very successful film. After this stint at direction, he then went on to produce Kal Ho Naa Ho - directed by Nikhil Advani (2003), Kaal – directed by Soham Shah (2005). After a break of four years from direction, he started working on directing Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. In 2010, he made My Name Is Khan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. He produced We Are Family, a remake of Hollywood’s Stepmom. In 2012 he produced Agneepath (directed by debutant Karan Malhotra) with Hrithik Roshan and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Both these films turned to be commercial successes. At present he is directing Student Of The Year.
